OSU Extension CNEP Community Grant ($2,000)                                     10/1/24-9/30/25

Community focused funding to address policy, system, or environmental changes to address food security concerns in limited resource communities. Two separate proposals for $1000 each were submitted and awarded for the purchase of resources for improving food access and education. 1st Step Male Diversion Program was on the receiving end of one of these awards by receiving garden tools and seeds to assist with address mental health and addiction recovery through Agri-healing while also addressing food security. Tulsa Boys Home received the other $1000 to assist with the purchase of a demonstration table to allow for improved visual participation in hands on activities for gardening and food preparation classes.

Community focused funding to address policy, system, or environmental changes to address food security concerns in limited resource communities. Two separate proposals for $500 each were submitted and awarded for the purchase of seeds for improving food access. Food On The Move Tulsa was on the receiving end of one of these awards to expand the reach of their community resource festivals through increased planting and harvests in the North Tulsa area. Eddie Warrior Correctional Center received the other $500 to assist with increase fresh produce in the cafeteria and also allow for implementation of a Women In Ag program for inmates who will be transition out of the prison environment to reduce recidivism

Community focused funding to address policy, system, or environmental changes to address food security concerns in limited resource communities. This funding was used to purchase seeds for Food On The Move Tulsa which allowed them to expand their reach of their community resource festivals through increased planting and harvests in the North Tulsa area.

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is designed to assist limited resource audiences in acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and changed behavior necessary for nutritionally sound diets, and to contribute to their personal development and the improvement of the total family diet and nutritional well-being.

Fair Food Network ($20,000)                                                                  10/1/20-12/31/22

Incentive projects to create healthier options focus on the increased consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables in communities with high SNAP redemption.

The Supplemental  Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) is designed to assist limited resource audiences in acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and changed behavior necessary for nutritionally sound diets, and to contribute to their personal development and the improvement of the total family diet and nutritional well-being.

Nutrition Education with lean beef products for the SDSU Extension Strengthening Families Program. Funding is for the purchase of beef products to teach beef cookery, safety and nutrition such as cuts from the chuck and round, e.g. Flat Iron, Ranch Steak, Denver Cut, Delmonico, Boneless Country-style Beef Ribs, Tri-tip roast & steaks.

A trans-disciplinary project between SDSU Extension, SDSU College of Education and Human Sciences, Health & Nutrition Sciences, SDSU College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences, Department of Sociology and Rural Studies and the SDSU College of Natural Sciences, Department of Geography & Geospatial Sciences. Mapping and storytelling for food access to improve Feeding South Dakota distribution efforts.

Collaboration with the South Dakota Women, Infant and Children’s Clinic (WIC) and SDSU Extension Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program to provide focused nutrition education and food preparation lessons along with implementation of grocery store tours to increase use of benefits and fruit and vegetable vouchers by WIC participants.

First Nations-Yankton Sioux Tribe ($15,000)                                         8/1/17-1/31/18 

First Nations Development Institute (First Nations) “Nourishing Native Children: Feeding Our Future” Project that is generously supported by funding from the Walmart Foundation. Yankton Sioux Tribe, Wagner, South Dakota – The "Bountiful Backpack Program" improves the overall nutritional quality of meals eaten at home by children and their families by developing cooking, food safety and recipe-preparation skills for participants. It links nutrition education and preparation with food sent home in backpacks. In addition, a pilot summer feeding program served additional youth.

First Nations-Lower Brule Tribe ($15,000)                                                  8/1/17-1/31/18

Children, Youth and Families At Risk, Shape Up: Family Style incorporates good nutrition and appropriate physical activity for learned behaviors for improving families health. Participation of the entire family in structured physical activity and improving nutritional intake will lower the chances of children becoming obese or developing diabetes. To decrease the rate of obesity and diabetes in families with children ages 4-14 by providing instructional programming to improve nutritional intake and opportunities to participate in structured physical activity sessions to increase physical activity level.
